FREE tele-dentistry consultations and information about changes to the practice in response to COVID-19

To all our valued patients

Due to the impact of Coronavirus, new restrictions on the practice of Dentistry are currently in place which means that we will be changing the way we normally conduct our business.

Currently, all dental practices in Australia have been advised to move to Level 3 restrictions, which means that we are only able to provide treatment that does not generate aerosols, or where treatment generating aerosols is limited to:

  • Management of patients with acute dental pain e.g. root canal treatment under rubber dam, or extractions
  • Management of significantly damaged upper front teeth (e.g. due to trauma, with restorative treatment provided under rubber dam)
  • Soft tissue pathology e.g. ulcers
  • Management of complex medically compromised patients with dental concerns which may compromise their medical status
  • Management of those at a higher risk of rapid progression of dental disease
  • Management of patients referred by a medical practitioner for medically necessary dental care

All other routine recall examinations and dental treatment for patients will be deferred for at least 30 days. This includes:

  • Extractions of asymptomatic teeth without swelling
  • Broken or chipped tooth/teeth or broken fillings not causing any pain
  • Bleeding or sore gums or bad breath (halitosis)
  • Loose teeth without a choking risk
  • Denture concerns
  • Crown and bridge
  • Scale and clean
  • Clicking/grating in jaw joint

If you are currently undergoing treatment with clear aligner orthodontics, we would ask that you contact us so that we can supply you with aligners for the next 6 weeks in order for you to continue with your treatment. Any crown and bridge work in progress will be completed if we are unable to provide a medium to long term temporary for you.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and update you as changes take place.

You may already be aware that we have implemented new protocols for screening patients and increased disinfection and cross-infection control procedures. This is to help ensure the safety of our patients and staff and includes:

Screening of patients before ALL appointments for

  • any history of travel, contact with those that have travelled or contact with COVID-19 positive persons in the past 14 days
  • a history of any flu like symptoms, cough, fever, and other early symptoms such as diarrhoea or a loss of smell.
  • temperature screening of patients prior to ALL appointments

Intensified disinfection and cross-infection control measures including

  • hourly surface disinfection of all high contact surfaces with ozonated water and after each patient visit
  • ozone pre-rinse for patients prior to treatment
  • treatment provided only under rubber dam
  • increased hand sanitation stations throughout the practice and
  • removal of all magazines and children’s activities in the waiting area.

To help support our patients over this time, we now offer FREE tele-dentistry consultations with one of our dentists to assist anyone with dental issues of any kind. This service is open to all members of the public, however, we will prioritise this service for current patients if demand increases too quickly.

Please use the link here https://compassdental.virtuaden.com/book or via our website to book your appointment.

As always, our dentists are available via mobile phone in the event that you need to contact them urgently, otherwise, calling our office number 8995 9530 will connect you through to a call centre that is operational 24/7. An operator will take your message and send us a notification of your call by email and someone will call you back, usually within 24 hours.

Should you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 8995 9530.

We thank you for your continued support, please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Yours,

Dr Thien Pham
